About Ed Mattson
I’ve been buying, collecting, and selling antiques and rare books for a long time – nearly 50 years!
No, I’m not 95 years old. I started very young.
I’m a retired law enforcement officer, but even in my early days, there’s was more to do than pounding a beat and arresting people. So I spent my off time studying and collecting antiques.
The nice thing about being retired is that I have plenty of time for rare books and antiques, and I’m far less likely to get shot or stabbed. Much healthier!
I don’t take a passive approach to this work:
- I study constantly. There’s always something new to learn about furniture, paintings, books, Civil War swords, etc.
- I travel to the homes of sellers, and still discover wonderful finds. It’s not unusual for me to spend $80,000 in an afternoon.
- At the same time, a lot of my items are not high-priced. I have medals, coins, stock certificates, and other old items that are interesting and affordable.
- I regularly attend a number of high-end antique shows. This is a great chance to buy and sell, and to meet old friends.
